OPPORTUNITIES FROM 28 CRITICAL POWER TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECTS IN VIETNAM
WHAT
- Potential for grid development solutions.
- Power Development Plan (PDP) 8 Implementation Plan estimates the investment capital demand needed to reach its grid development of 14.9 billion USD by 2030, in which 9 billion USD within 2021-2025 and 5.9 billion USD within 2026-2030.
- PDP 8 identifies the following grid objectives:
-
- 100% rural electrification by 2025.
- Adding 12,300km of 500kV transmission lines by 2030.
- Introducing HVDC lines: 5,200 – 8,300 km by 2050 and dedicated lines for offshore wind by 2030.
- Improved grid interconnection in the Mekong region and in ASEAN.
HOW
- Vietnam will focus on the following critical projects under power transmission line development:
- Projects to strengthen the North-Central power grid connection, increase transmission capacity and supply electricity to large load areas (15 projects).
- Synchronize power grid projects and release capacity of power generation projects (6 projects).
- Power grid projects to release the capacity of northern hydropower plants and increase electricity purchases from China (4 projects).
- Power grid projects serve to buy electricity from Laos (3 projects).
- These are the clearly identified and approved projects. Otherwise, opportunities could also be seen in other projects such as HVDC line for offshore wind.
- Business Sweden Vietnam has been running the Energy Alliance for years in order to facilitate local engagement for Swedish companies in energy sector.
